The Guardsman 1932

The Guardsman 1932

For 30 years this State heritage listed space sat idle, largely derelict and unseen by the passing commuters. It was originally a public dining hall at the Adelaide Railway Station that opened in 1932 and was acclaimed as being the ‘finest dining hall in Australia’, with a menu of ‘comprehensive character’. Our brief was to reawaken the space by returning it back to it’s 1932 glory, with it’s imagined identity of the Guardsman paying homage to Adelaide’s yesteryear — A celebration of Adelaide’s real and imagined eclectic history that exists in the Railway Station, Local Sporting clubs and Pub culture. The Art direction for The Guardsman was driven by its heritage, where traditional application and crafted workmanship was used to create artworks, signage and propping that played an important part in the venues narrative.
